Shannon River Adventure

A Trip That Brings You Closer to Nature

An Oasis Of Unspoilt And Natural Beauty

When people arrive at Shannon River Adventure they always comment on the beauty and peacefulness of our location and the unspoiled quality of it . . . It is natural rather than landscaped beauty.

About Us

Shannon River Adventure opened in 2009 after many years of imagining and planning. I grew up on a working farm, with Lough Bofin at my doorstep, and have loved the outdoors all my life.

Over the years I came to realise the benefits of exploring the outdoors and have been delighted to share my passion for utilising our natural environment for the benefit of many.

So where does it all happen?

You’ll find us at the picturesque shores of Lough Bofin, 2km outside the village of Rooskey. As we are located on part of the Blueway Shannon corridor, and in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, Shannon River Adventure has become a popular destination for local, domestic and foreign visitors.

THE WHOS AND THE WHATS

We started providing outdoor water and land activities to groups in 2009. At first, our main target audience were primary and secondary school groups, as well as kids for seasonal activity camps.  It has been a work in progress, in terms of the physical site, activities and clientele, and we are continuously investing and improving – look out for some exciting additions this season!

We provide several package types, depending on the type of group. As all our activities are instructor-led, we take groups of 4, minimum, and by booking only. Our activities include: Kayaking, Mud Slide, Pier Jumping, Kayak trips around the surrounding lakes, Climbing Wall, Archery, Fun Assault course and several other team games and challenges. Our facilities include hot showers and toilet block, large and spacious changing areas, outdoor kitchen with cooking, large covered outdoor space, as well as our new addition – our Container Café serving freshly roasted Guatemala blend for a real barista experience.

REFRESH

We are also very excited to have added an outdoor café this summer and promise to offer the best coffee in the area! So, come with the kids, take a break from your cycle or walk or enjoy a break after your exertions! And don’t worry – in the likely event that it might be a little precipitous, we have a covered seating area as well as out in the open.

Experiential Learning

We have a lot of positive stories that encapsulate the experience people have with our business. An example of one from last season is when we had a group of 40 young people, Transition Year students, from Donegal stay with us for 3 nights. The teachers were determined to get their students out of their comfort zones and knew that many of them would struggle “with the loss of ‘normal luxuries’”.

The plan had been that they would camp on the island for two nights and camp on-site for the last night. After night one, there was grumbling about lack of comforts, no phones, creep-crawleys etc. By the second night it was obvious that they were more comfortable with the island camping and you could really see the group gelling. On the third day, they begged to stay on the island – which we accommodated.

Brought a group of 9 young people for a half day of activities and we had the best time ever. We had a chance to try rock climbing, kayaking, mudsliding and archery. The instructor had games for each of the activities which made things even more fun and they had spare shoes and towels for the ones that forgot them. Lovely staff and great facilities, would definitely recommend!

Had a brilliant morning here with 3 adults and 3 kids aged 5,7 and 11. We were picked up from our cruiser and did the kayak, mud slide and pier jump. Kids absolutely loved it and our instructor Paul went out of his way to make it really good fun. He even did a short archery session to fill up our time. Would highly recommend to anyone with kids.

We stayed for glamping for few nights. The tent is spacious and enough supplies for basic needs. Bed was comfortable and clean. There are few lights inside the tent. You can borrow a BBQ from them if you want. Plenty of grass in front of our tent for he kids to play. There is a fridge, toaster and kettle you can use in the kitchen. The toilet and shower always spotless. The onsite activities are brilliant. Our kids did one day camp, they want to come back next year and sign up for more days. The water for the shower can be a bit cold, but it is camping after all. You can't expect the luxury of runner hot water. We are hoping return next summer.

Brought kids for one day of the summer camp, great to be able to do a one day option when not living locally to it. All very well organised and well run, the kids had a great time. The mudslide was a massive hit, not something you get with many other water/river adventure places in our experience.
